a Few days ago it was reported that by the end of 2011 in Moscow may receive the first Apple Store in the CIS. Although it’s not officially confirmed and the contract is not yet signed, I think it is quite likely. To be aware of how it will end and generally get news Apple-themed one of the first in Runet, pollute our Twitter account.
Predpolozhim, the Apple Store still appears in Moscow. Then I think some of you will be interested to see how the interview with future Apple employees. And what exactly will you be working in a brand new Apple Store in Moscow?
For some people to get the chance to work at Apple seems to be one of the most attractive jobs on the planet. To be surrounded by Apple. To talk with clients about what it is incredibly magical (incredibly magical) products. If all of this sounds enticing to you, then read on, but we should not ignore the fact. it’s easier to get into Harvard than to become an employee of Apple. This is a translation of an article about how the process of passing on the Apple.
After a long browsing the Apple website I came across a section about Apple and thought, «Hmm, why not try to respond to some vacancies and see what happens?» Realizing that my business blogging solves nothing, I sent my CV to several departments for the reception of the work in Cupertino, Los Angeles. I was shocked when two days later received an email in which I was invited on “Apple Career Seminar,” after two days in Phoenix. I had to reply within 24 hours, because space in the hotel was filled very quickly.
First meeting : It was a large group event. About 30 candidates vied for the vacant jobs at the Apple Store. When I arrived, this group is expected admission to the seminar. When we walked into the interview room, speakers played music group MGMT, and Apple employees applauded, as they usually do on the day of the launch of the new produce (Launch Day). For about two hours we were shown several video demonstrations of Apple, were presented with several managers, and we, as a group, asked questions about Apple and its products. Was also part (speaking portion), where each of us stood before the group and represented himself. At the end of the room sat a group of six managers who took notes, wrote down the answers and actions of each of us. At the end of the interview we were divided into groups of six people, and in turn answered typical for such events questions: «Why you want to work at Apple?», «Tell me about a time when you didn’t get along with the employee», «Tell me about when you had to deal with an angry customer» etc.
note: during the workshop will be useful to raise your hand for every question and act super-active (act super excited) about everything related to Apple.
Second meeting : 72 hours after the “Apple Career Seminar” I got a call. The man on the phone asked did I past event and if I’m still interested in achieving career with Apple, what kind of work I would prefer. I also said that they do not employ geniuses, and everyone starts at the bottom, as Apple Specialist, but I can work to achieve higher positions. Over the next 10-15 minutes, I asked a few more questions and then she asked if I could come in tomorrow for a personal interview.
the Questions: «Tell me about your technical experience», «Tell me about when you were supposed to do something technical, but did not know how to perform this task in advance».
Third meeting : I came for the interview at 9 am, but I was told that the Manager, who had to go to my appointment, busy and asked me to wait a few minutes. After the first group of the seminar I had the feeling that my every answer I gave, is evaluated (and I am absolutely sure that this is so). Waiting for his interview, I’m interested in talking about the iPod Shuffle and Nano (in particular about the finish and headphones), and talked to the security guard and several workers.
thirty minutes later came the Manager to start the interview with me, but then came another candidate, who was appointed priydti at 9:30 am. We were told that the interview we will be together. In the next 1 hour we were asked to recall the past experience and the situation that occurred there. Some of the questions were repeated from previous interviews, for example, «Why you want to work at Apple?» But there were other questions: «Tell me about when you were not satisfied with their expectations?», «Tell us about when you have exceeded the expectations of others?». We were also allowed to ask about the inner workings of the Apple Store. The Manager was incredibly nice and helpful (incredibly nice and helpful and told us that we both will be heard at the next interview.
note: on the phone I specifically warned not to wear a shirt and tie (for the first interview, I came exactly from personal preference), so I wore a bow tie and pants with suspenders (sorry Apple, not everyone likes t-shirts). If you really want to get a job at Apple, I would recommend that you casually dressing, dress like a hipster.
Disclaimer : just a week passed before I heard anything from Apple. Finally, seven days after my last interview, I called the Secretary of the Manager to inform me that they were glad to get to know me, but they «’m going to move in the other direction» (“move in another direction”). I wanted to ask a question, but she hung up, that was a bit strange as all the other employees were very friendly and polite. I have heard from others that they’ve only got the email with failure, so I don’t think it was standard Protocol for this.
My advice for those who hope to become Apple Employee:
1) Get a referral . If you do not know anyone who works at the Apple Store, then go to the store and show interest by talking with employees of Apple. Each store can advise you after the first interview that slightly increase your chances.
2) Be outgoing at all time . Whether it be a group interview or personal, try to be friendly not only with those who work at Apple, but also with other people around you. Maybe it’s so I only thought, but it seems that they pay attention even to the smallest details.
3) Fit the mold. Apple does not employ people based only on their technical knowledge, they also need those who are versed in the people. Spend some time at your local Apple Store to get a feel for the type of people they hire (pay attention to their clothes and how they interact with people).
4) Know the products. You don’t have to know everything about Apple products, but it would be very useful. I was the only person at the seminar, which was able to explain what is a Joint Venture and why the transition to Intel chips was important. It helped me stand out, and the General Manager I remembered.
the Questions and terms may vary slightly in some points, but the format of the interviews should be like this, because Apple, as we know, is a company that loves Edinoverie and simplicity. Here are only the first steps to get a job at the Apple Store, but it should be useful for those who are going to join the ranks of Apple. However, all these tips are written by a guy who refused to…
