Fujitsu Siemens Computers introduced in Russia new UNIX servers.
February 14, 2002 in Moscow was held a presentation of new UNIX servers from Fujitsu Siemens Computers. In addition, representatives of the company presented an analysis of the situation on the market of corporate servers to the beginning of 2002.
marketing Manager of the representative office of Fujitsu Siemens Computers in Russia Vladimir Colin outlined the main trends of development of the market for corporate servers in Russia and Europe. He noted that the products of Fujitsu Siemens Computers on the market for UNIX servers is the Foundation of the main strategic directions of activity of the company — support critical business applications. Indicative is the fact that despite the worldwide decline in 2001, almost all major manufacturers of servers, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has increased its market share in the class UNIX servers.
the Manager on UNIX-products representation Fujitsu Siemens Computers Eugene Serbin has assessed the entire model range RISC UNIX servers PRIMEPOWER and stopped at the fundamental changes that have occurred in this family for the last time. He stressed that the PRIMEPOWER family can be divided into two groups of servers. The first group is made up of Autonomous and installed in rack servers PRIMEPOWER models 100, 200, 400 and 600. New announced model PRIMEPOWER 650 and 850 will include it in this group.
Two new models of PRIMEPOWER servers — 650 (up to 8 processors) and 850 (up to 16 processors) must meet the growing demand for dedicated application servers. Both servers are very compact and are made in a rackmount version. New models PRIMEPOWER 650 and 850 are using the latest version of core SPARC64-GP/675MHz, developed and manufactured by Fujitsu Siemens Computers, and new technology system bus “Sync Source“, in which data packets are transmitted synchronously. New technology provides ultra-high throughput 41.5 GB/s for PRIMEPOWER 850 and 13.8 GB/s for PRIMEPOWER 650, thereby improving by approximately 40% performance transaction processing compared to competitive models of servers. Servers PRIMEPOWER 650 and 850 are already certified for use as part of a cluster solution FSC PRIMECLUSTER.
Use PRIMEPOWER 650 and 850 provides additional capabilities required by organizations for the development of Internet services, systems management, customer service, enterprise resource planning and other resource-intensive business applications. For example, they can be used as application servers SAP.
Published 2 February 2002 results servers PRIMEPOWER 650 and 850 in the standard for Internet servers test SPECweb99 in configurations with 4 ,6 and 8 processors showed their leadership in the classroom secondary servers. Earlier in December 2001 the best result for servers in the configuration with 12 processors showed the server PRIMEPOWER 800.
the Second group of servers PRIMEPOWER form a system of “high-end“ class PRIMEPOWER 800, 1000, and 2000. They can contain from 4 to 128 processors and support the full functionality of the Data Center. This allows you to create based PRIMEPOWER a range of effective configurations for enterprise information systems and data centers.
the Most powerful server in this class PRIMEPOWER 2000 owns currently records in tests SAP ATO, SAP SD, TPC-C, SPECint_rate2000 and in several other tests. January 24, 2002 recorded a new record result PRIMEPOWER 2000 test SAP SD. The test was run in a configuration with 128 processors SPARC64-GP with a clock frequency of 675 MHz. With the 7800 SD-user server of Fujitsu Siemens Computers almost twice blocked the Sun Sunfire 15000 with 72 processors UltraSPARC III with a clock frequency of 900 MHz (4100 SD users). Pleased to note that at a lower clocked processor, the server PRIMEPOWER 2000 showed not only the best absolute result, but surpassed Sunfire 15000 and per processor. Servers PRIMEPOWER 800 and 1000 technologically homogeneous with PRIMEPOWER 2000 and differ only in smaller scale. All servers support virtual domains with dynamic reconfiguration and allow simultaneous use in the same server processors with different clock frequency. From the point of view of functionality server Sun Sunfire 15000 yet to reach the technical level PRIMEPOWER 2000.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has opened two centers to support Business Critical Computing in Germany and the USA. They are intended for non-maintenance of corporate systems based on UNIX servers PRIMEPOWER. The centers are staffed with highly qualified experts who can perform remote — monitoring systems in on-line mode and to consult specialists in the field. Highly developed diagnostic and monitoring system, which is equipped with the PRIMEPOWER servers, allows you to monitor the status of all system components and to predict potential failures. This level of service is becoming the standard for all servers PRIMEPOWER high-end”. As part of the service contract, such support will be offered to customers in 32 countries, including in Russia.
In Russia to date, the 7 servers PRIMEPOWER high-end” and about 40 servers PRIMEPOWER average.
Also during the presentation it was announced the receipt of a status system reseller firms “Open technology” and “E”. Earlier, similar agreements were signed with companies Lynx BCC, ischemic heart disease, «Elbrus 2000 and Classics CIS». The status of the system reseller assumes that they are experts in the field of UNIX solutions.
