Philips TV PFL8008 offers many preset picture modes: «User», «Bright», «Natural», «Standard», «Movie», «Photo», «energy Saving»and «ISF Day» and «ISF Night». I will focus only on the most high-quality modes, which are less likely to distort the picture and have the most suitable color.

Color gamut is very close to the standard Rec. 709 (HDTV). All the colors are well configured in brightness, hue, and saturation. So DeltaE errors is very low — on average only 1,85 unit, which is commendable to factory settings. It is a pity that with the white balance so far, there are problems. It is obvious that the TV does not interfere with proper calibration of color.
For these purposes at Philips PFL8008 there are two separate image mode: «ISF Day» and «ISF Night». They are designed to customize the color of your TV, that is for professional calibration. And have separate profiles for day and night viewing, since the optimum brightness for these conditions will be different. I tried to use them, and the results came out… But first things first.
First of all I turned off the excess scaling, removing the Overscan. For this purpose it was necessary to select «Not to scale». This allowed us to display 1080p signals in a point-to-point, i.e. with maximum clarity and original 100%.
I decided to set ISF day mode off dynamic lights in a bright room her work is not too critical. The brightness, the stock of which is more than enough, was established at the level of 140 CD/m 2. that is optimally suited for our conditions.
to get the best fluorescent colors, unnecessary interventions were not required. The average gamma — 2,17, is fairly linear.
But with the white balance had to suffer badly. Unfortunately, the available settings here quite a bit — just a simple white balance adjustment by two points. And it works quite rough, which makes it very difficult to configure. This particularly applies to the lower range, which failed to fully correct the errors and what methods do not have to try!
the Final result was this: the average color temperature of about 6500K, which is not surprising, because it was the standard for calibration. But the white balance for dark shades of «running away» with the incredible (by the standards of calibration) amplitude.
Error DeltaE on grayscale is less than 2 units in the range of 20-100%. It would seem that this is a very good result for a 2-point settings. But all this advantage is overshadowed by the fact that 10% of gray there is a strong imbalance — roughly speaking, all dark gradation painted in a reddish color. Excess red components here — under 30%, the error DeltaE under 30 points. Moreover, if somehow mitigate or minimize this disadvantage, the white balance is significantly distorted in the entire range. Have to find the precarious balance, and coarse step settings in the lower range certainly does not help the case.

The brightness of the backlight is adjusted pretty rough, so I stopped at the actual elevation of 125 CD/m 2. For extra depth of black color and high contrast I have included dynamic lights on «Standard» level.
Final average gamma of 2.25. The indicator is stable again, even if we consider the dynamic backlight.

In the end, using the calibration I managed to get on TV a neutral tint (except shadows) and excellent color reproduction in accordance with standard Rec. 709. The confusion caused only problems with the white balance for dark colors. At first I had thought that these errors lie in the software — but even a couple of firmware updates, nothing has changed in this regard. It seems that it works video processing, and there is nothing we can do about it.

As you can see, the static contrast appeared to be quite high, but the extra help from Philips PFL8008 have dynamic lighting system.
